Hello! Happy Friday! I thought I would make the card pictured above for both the Global Design Project and Crazy Crafters Team Project Highlights. This week's Global Design Project is "Case the Designer Challenge" - Copy And Selectively Edit - Krista Frattin. Her beautiful card is on the banner below. I admire Krista's work, she's on the Artisan Design Team and love her beautiful style. Please click on the banner below to see the many wonderful creations from around the world. Hopefully you'll also be inspired and join in the fun. :)
I have taken the soft pastel colours and white space to create my whimsical style card inspired by Krista. I have used three stamp sets to achieve this look.
• Nice Cuppa - tea cup framelit die, heart and sentiment inside card
• Butterfly Basics - Flower
• Work of Art - Just for You sentiment and brush strokes on the tea cup
It is with such regret that the Nice Cuppa set and Decorative Stripes mask are both retiring and thought I would showcase them before the final curtain falls. I have made a side folding landscape format and have carried the front design to the inside of the card showing the cute play on word sentiment "You're Tea-riffic" with a tea bag label silver heat embossed on vellum.
Here is how I made the card:
• Stamp the flower image from Butterfly Basics and I have used Molotow Art masking fluid it's in a pen form, to mask before stamping the image over it.
• When all the images have been stamped and masked with masking fluid, I have used the Stripes decorative mask over the top as pictured and taped it down.
• I have then used my blending applicator tool - sponge dauber to apply the ink colour. Start lightly and work from the centre out. You gradually spread the colour and lightly spreading it following the stencil.
• This is the finished application with stripe stencil/mask. I then rub out the masking fluid to reveal the stamped images.
Here is the finish card once again. I have silver heat embossed the hearts from the Nice cuppa set and embellished it with some white and clear sequins. They're almost like miniature contact lenses and can be hard to see hehe, but having them placed randomly is in the style of Krista Frattin don't you think? :) It's sad that the nice cuppa set is retiring on 31st May, so don't forget to place your order before it's gone forever.

Juan you astound me with your artistry! I adore this card - who wouldn't? It's a shame Stampin' Up! doesn't sell the art masking fluid you used; it looks like an excellent product. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Gail for your lovely compliments. I'm so glad you like it. GDP challenges are so inspirational. Yes it's a pity, as it's such a helpful tool in pen form, and time saving too. I got it from Ebay while searching for Art Masking Fluid. :)
DeleteLove, love this card. Also love the colour combo. Do you mind letting me know what colour ink you used to colour the flowers or did you use stampin markers?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Louise. Love these colours too. Yes certainly, I used the ink refill colours - Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight and Wisteria Wonder. Ink refills are very concentrated and it's best to use the tiniest amount and water it down a lot to get the lightest shade and gradually add more ink to build definition. I have used a watercolor brush for this look but you could use Aqua Painters too. Just make sure the brush tip is just damp and not too wet as I didn't use watercolor paper, it's the regular whisper white card stock. Use water on this paper sparingly and with the lightest touch as it's not designed to soak up lots of water. :)

ReplyDeleteVery pretty and a great masking technique! Love your take on Krista's card. I am sad that these and the Happy Patterns masks are retiring. I was going to pick them up on my next order... maybe they didn't sell very well but was it really too much space they were taking up in the warehouse that they couldn't keep them on? LOL! Oh well, maybe I will make my own masks out of Whisper White Thick Cardstock!
ReplyDeleteThank you Julie - I appreciate your lovely compliments. I got too excited I think but I love tea hehe and yes I agree with you lol Why? No! It's out with old and in with the new sadly. You could do that, but the stencil is very good quality and will last a long time. It's a small investment and you're so lucky there in the US, it's only $3 for it and here it's $3.50 as it's on sale right now, normally it $5. Best time to get it when on sale, it will be like giving it away for free there compared to here when on sale lol. :)
DeleteI have to admit, I nearly cried at the loss of the masks!! One of my favourite techniques is the faded stencil background you have created here. Gorgeous card as always, Juana. Your colouring is lovely! Thanks for playing at Global Design Project with us.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Paula, always appreciate your lovely compliments. Yes it's sad as there's only one mask left. There's always DIY stencils to create a similar look or get creative with the new products hehe. It's a pleasure, I always get inspired by playing along with Global Design Project. :)
DeleteWow, I've never thought of using a cup die and stamp on it like that.
ReplyDeleteThank you Satomi - it's like something out of Alice in Wonderland the quirky yet creative hehe. :)
